East End Community Services is currently offering free OSHA 10 classes to income eligible Montgomery County residents. All applicants will be required to complete a 4 hour job readiness class prior to being approved to participate in the training. The job readiness class will be comprised of a brief intake, a TABE assessment, and 2 hours of classroom instruction. All interested applicants will be scheduled back for a follow-up appointment, at which time eligibility for the training will be determined. Those determined to be eligible will be given a choice to either complete the training online at their own pace and convenience, or will be registered for a 2 day class that will take place on the last Thursday and Friday of April. Those choosing the online option will be given a login and password, as well as, regular access to our onsite computer lab and technical support through our training partner Mid-America Education Center. All participants who successfully complete both the 4 hour job readiness class and an OSHA 10 training will be assigned a case manager and provided one-on-one job coaching. Job coaching will include resume development, mock interviews, and job placement services. All participants who complete an OSHA 10 training will also receive an official OSHA 10 card from the Department of Labor.
This training is a great opportunity for those seeking employment in any career field that requires workplace safety training, including construction and healthcare. The online option will offer access to both the general construction outreach training and the general industry outreach training, which is good for a number of career fields. The 2 day classroom training at the end of April will be for the construction trade only.
