The goal of our youth programming is to improve academic success and reduce risky behaviors. Our youth center program is conducted in the evenings from 4 pm to 7 pm for children ages 10 through high school. Evening programming includes a hot meal, homework help, tutoring in small groups, enrichment activities, exercise and fitness, service projects and community involvement. Our program uses best practices for youth development which emphasizes that youth need to acquire personal assets in order to succeed. Studies completed by the Search Institute have identified 40 developmental assets that are associated with responsible behavior and academic success. Through participation at the Youth Center, pre-teens, adolescents and young adults are building crucial skills, assets and resiliency factors that will help them make positive decisions.
