Job Description

 

Title:        Director of Development

 

Summary:        East End Community Services Director of Development is a highly motivated, energetic and creative individual with a desire and the skill set to increase philanthropic capacity for an organization dedicated to transforming a “troubled” urban neighborhood into one that is healthy, prosperous and caring, and where children and families can flourish.  

 

This is a senior management position within the organization.  The Director of Development is a seasoned development professional with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in major gifts, corporate and foundation grants, volunteer-led personal solicitation, and special event fund-raising.  Incumbent can demonstrate through previous employment:

·        Clear understanding of philanthropy, non-profit organizations, and relationship building both with the board of trustees and with potential funders,       

·        Ability to critically think and understand the big picture, and can articulate verbally and in writing the agency’s vision, mission and strategy for comprehensive community development.

 

The East End Community Services’ Director of Development reports to the Executive Director.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility

 

1.      Development Coordination

·        With campaign counsel, develop and coordinate major gifts campaign for the East End Community Services Corporation.

·        With the Resource Development Committee, develop and implement on-going, master development plan.

·        Coordinate all year-round development functions of the organization.

·        Serve as principle fundraising contact with volunteers and donors.

·        Facilitate all cultivation efforts with potential donors.

·        Assist in facilitation of key internal and external meetings.

·        Serve as the staff liaison to the Development Committee.

·        Assist in the identification and recruitment of campaign volunteers as needed.

 

  2.  Campaign administrative support, research and data base management

·        Prepare all correspondence, acknowledgment letters, documentation and proposals.

·        Prepare weekly progress and distribution reports evaluating the status of the campaign.

·        Research prospect information from public records as appropriate.

·        Prepare and maintain information on top 35-50 donor prospects.

·        Maintain all campaign records  (hard copies and computer database)

·        Maintain all gift records (donor files, pledge cards, correspondence, etc.)

 

3.  Grant and Proposal preparation

§         Working with Associate Executive Director, conduct research on best practices and assist with grant writing as requested.

 

4.  Relationships and Marketing

·        Participate in Board of Trustees meetings and establish strong, positive relationships with Board members

·        Establish ongoing relationships with key community leaders and potential donors.

·        Along with Executive Director, serve as primary staff contact to media, campaign leadership, community leaders and general public.

·        Coordinate the design and publication of all development materials.

·        Recognizing that program volunteers can become significant financial donors, work with Program Directors and oversee the recruitment, orientation, placement and on-going information tracking on volunteers.  

 

Classification:                  Full-Time Professional Level (40 + hours per week)
