Creating a New Community

East End has been working with neighborhoods and community leaders in conjunction with EnvisionWorks, Inc. to create a vision for a revived streetscape on Xenia Ave.

The following slide show is based upon the plan developed by EnvisionWorks, Inc. that was funded by the City of Dayton.   Improvement to the streetscape is also essential to the housing development the first phase of which is 40 new homes that are being developed.

Xenia Ave

The plan for Xenia Ave focuses on improving the west entrance, opening up a community space and improving the blocks in between Ruskin and East End Community Services.

West Gateway

The plan calls for development of the west entrance gateway off of Keowee St. onto Xenia Ave.

Open Space

The plan creates new open space for community gatherings, including a shelter, sidewalks, public art area and green space.

Walking to Ruskin School

The plan calls for improved walkways to Ruskin School for students and parents.

Street scene

The plans calls for an improved streetscape with trees, lighting and enhanced pedestrian areas.

New Homes

The streetscape improvements are part of the overall redevelopment of Twin Towers that has started with building 40 new, green, energy efficient homes, constructed starting in 2009.

One of the key features of the Twin Towers Crossing Redevelopment Strategy that was adopted by the City of Dayton was the creation of an improved streetscape for the Xenia Avenue Corridor.  The streetscape vision calls for improved lighting, removal of blighted building, more green space, improved sidewalks to improve walkability, and an open space for the community to gather.
